The New Black TV Channel (beta)
Our channel has finally launched and still in beta, so bear with us. We aim to show you black films online from around the world. We looked at so many films, where we searched the net or were sent in to be featured. As the South Africa FIFA World Cup was a great success, we decided to start off with an excellent 13 part football series from Kenya.
The Team is a dramatic television series created in response to the devastating violence in Kenya following the last general elections in 2007. It is a metaphor of Kenyan society that dramatizes how the newly recruited members of the co-ed Imani FC ("lmani" meaning "faith" in Swahili) earn to overcome their tribal, ethnic, gender, social and economic differences.
Is coexistence possible?
Watch what happens as each of the players, and their coach, struggle to overcome racism and hatred in a tense society. Each episode of the team last around 30 minutes and all play in order on the channel, so if you want to come back and watch future episodes, just press on the screen and click on the right black arrow to skip episodes.
Season One of The Team premiered on May 21 2009 on Kenyan's Citizen-TV with a viewership of close to 3 million for each episode. The Team is ranked at number seven in the most popular programmes on Kenyan television. Season Two is currently being broadcast in Kenya and providing we get a demand on The New Black TV Channel for the first series, we may show it here. In the meantime, enjoy the first series and email us your feedback!
The Team was created by Search for Common Ground (SFCG) and Media Focus on Africa Foundation (MFAF) in Kenya, and also supported by the UK Department for International Development (DfID).
About the trailer: Currently it is of a new documentary called Up from the Bottoms: The Search for the American Dream produced by Jim and Rod Schaub and narrated by Cicely Tyson. This film has not been screened in the UK and if you would like to see it, email us and we will keep you updated.
